May 17, 9 AM ~ Chimborazo Park to Rocketts Landing Hike
Chimborazo Park, 3215 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA, USImportant to know
We plan to pack a lot of sights and sounds into this 3.5 mile hike. The good news is this is mostly an urban hike with minimum requirement to be able to ford a stream, or possess the ability to recognize toxic plants, negotiate rocks, roots, fallen trees, damp trail conditions, stairs, steep ascents, vines, low hanging branches, culverts, uncertain footing on hills, reptiles, spider webs, scorpions, birds of prey, or migratory waterfowl.
Meet at the terminus of 32nd Street on the West side of Chimborazo Park and take a morning hike of approximately 3.5 miles through some little known trails on Chimborazo Hill to the riverside at Rocketts Landing. When we reach Rocketts Landing we'll reverse course and follow the Virginia Capital Trail along the river to Great Shiplock Park. Then we'll climb the hill at Pear Street (not for the faint of heart), take in the view from Libby Hill Park and follow 29th Street back to Chimborazo Park. If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us.
If you don't have a clue about the location of Chimorazo Park, click on the arrow located just above and to he right of "How to Find Us" in the event description. An interactive map will be displayed and when "Directions" (on the left) is selected the best route from your current location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be revealed to you. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.Participants should be able to maintain a pace of 2.5 miles per hour. On street parking is available but allow enough time to locate a space. Curbside parking is available adjacent to the park on streets too numerous to mention. This is a very dog friendly hike.
• What to bring
Water bottle, a cap, visor or bonnet, clothing appropriate for the season, aspirin, sun block, insect repellent, pepper spray, band aids, & practical footwear.• Availability of Restroom facilities is limited so manage your pre-hike liquid consumption wisely.
